Reviews and how we vet information
This site does not publish customer reviews. Here is why, and how to check an installer's reviews and registers yourself before you sign anything.
Why there are no customer reviews on this site
Solar Power UK Grants is an independent guide to UK solar grants. It does not install solar panels, it has no customers of its own and it holds no installer accreditation, so it has no reviews to publish. We reply to enquiries by email. We do not pass your details to installers. Any review you rely on should be of the installer who will actually do the work.
How to check an installer before you sign
- MCS register. Grant-funded and Smart Export Guarantee-eligible solar work must be carried out by an MCS-certified installer. Search the company name on mcscertified.com and check the certificate covers solar PV, and battery storage if you are having a battery fitted.
- Consumer code. MCS installers must belong to a consumer code such as RECC or HIES, which set the rules on deposits, contracts and complaints. Check the membership is current, not lapsed.
- TrustMark. Government-backed schemes such as ECO4 and the Great British Insulation Scheme require TrustMark-registered installers. Search the business on trustmark.org.uk.
- Independent reviews. Read reviews on Google, Trustpilot and Which? Trusted Traders rather than on the installer's own website, and look at the pattern over months rather than the headline score. A run of identical five-star reviews posted in the same week is a warning sign, not reassurance.
- Companies House. Check how long the company has traded, that the name on the quote matches the registered company, and that the company has not recently been dissolved and re-formed under a similar name.
- Paperwork. Ask for the MCS certificate, the workmanship warranty and the manufacturer warranties in writing before any money changes hands. Funded schemes never require an upfront payment from you.
How this site vets what it publishes
Grant rules, rates and deadlines on this site are taken from the scheme operators and government sources: Ofgem for ECO4 and, GOV.UK and the devolved governments for Warm Homes: Local Grant and the Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish programmes, and the licensed suppliers that run the Smart Export Guarantee. Pages are reviewed when those sources change. Where a figure is an estimate it is labelled as one, and no page on this site promises approval, a fixed grant amount or a fixed saving. If you spot something out of date, use the contact page and it will be checked against the source.
